This project was developed over the course of about four months. When I first started, the only material provided was a very vague and highly imaginative storyboard written in a document. There were no visual references at the time, so most of the early work relied on interpreting the written description and translating those ideas into visuals.
After working on the project for about a month, I asked for feedback twice and was told that things looked good, but without receiving any clear direction or detailed comments. Later, I received a large piece of feedback that was unexpectedly very critical, mentioning that the video didn’t look like the reference. This caught me off guard because no reference had been shared with me up to that point.
When I asked what reference they were referring to, a reference video from the original client was finally shared through the middleman I was working for. It turned out that the reference had not been passed along earlier, even though I had initially been told that no reference was provided because they wanted the result to look unique.
Realizing this was quite frustrating, as a lot of time and effort had already gone into building the project purely based on interpreting the written description. Having the reference earlier would likely have clarified the direction and saved a significant amount of time and stress during the first month of production.
The project also went through far more revisions than originally planned. While I had initially agreed to do just one revision, the process ended up requiring many more adjustments as the direction became clearer. This extended the timeline considerably and even forced me to delay other work and cancel one project, which was unfortunate.
Even though the reference video eventually helped clarify what the client was looking for, by that time, I had already committed to the new direction and continued refining the project from there. Communication through a middleman (my client who gets work and gives it to other artists), along with some language barriers, also made the process more complicated than it needed to be.
I can't blame the original client, aka the Sewerpress team, since I never communicated with them.
In the end, after four months, the project was finally completed. The original client eventually decided to redo the voice-over and text themselves so they could align it exactly the way they wanted.
Overall, this project taught me that sometimes a project itself isn’t necessarily difficult, but the way ideas and directions are communicated can make the process much more challenging. While this isn’t exactly the type of work I usually specialize in, it was still a valuable learning experience and one of my earlier projects of this kind.
Will I do it again? maybe. Will I do it for the same cost? Never! 😂
Anyway, this gave me experience which I value, so I'm grateful.
Sewerpress - Final Video.
Slow & Costly.
2nd Rotomolding animation according to the reference. The one that got final was the initial one, but with some minor changes. So, I wasted my time on this.
Injection Molding (First instruction).
Very first complete draft. I know it's terrible...
